PetsOne Pet Policy in Shanghai
China is already restricting their urban couples to one child to curve off the population explosion, now one of its cities wants to do the same with the pet population. Dog owners in Shanghai rushed to the application of license for their pet in the past weekend as the the city imposed a new rule to limit the growing popularity and population of pets. Hundreds of citizen tagged and had their pets vaccinated as the new law took effect which limit households to single pet dog. The move is said to cut the rampant noise, dog waste and growing risk of dog attacks. To make the pet license more appealing and viable to more pet owners, the fees for applying for the permit was slashed by seventy five percent to 500 yuan (US$77) from 2,000 yuan, according to local media.Many dog owners took the advantage of obtaining a new license with a much lower fees, it caused a spike in traffic at animal vaccination centers. Resident or households which already has more than one pet before the implementation of law will be allowed but they would have to maintain individual permits for each. Owning a dog has been popular among China's fast growing numbers of middle class. According to official estimates, Shanghai's pet dog population is around 800,000 where only around a quarter of that number is registered and licensed. The population of city was more that already at the 19 million level three years ago, just image if each household will have two or more pet dog. According to Beijing-based Dog Fans magazine, around 58 million pet dogs are present in the 20 major city in the country by 2009, these numbers rise around 30 percent each year. The same legislation requires owners to give away puppies or send them to adoption centers when are around three months old. I also prevents people to have big dogs, those that are more that 3 ft. including breeds known for aggressiveness like bulldogs. Animal rescue centers has been expanded because the government is expecting that some owners will just abandon their pet dogs to ditch the fees and hassles of the license fees. You can talk about...
